Fabulous family!

What a great day! We started off with an amazing brunch just down the street from our apartment. We had no idea what we were having, all we were looking for was a place that served coffee and toast! Instead we had some amazing food - the kids shared a huge yogurt with berries and fresh figs and granola - I ended up stealing it and eating half of it. So yummy...

We then went for a stroll in Vondel Park. (Jeff as a youngster, ahem - teenager, always thought it was 'fondle' park... which is why he was so anxious to see it???) Anyway, we did see a little fondling but not too much, and it turns out I was the only one who noticed it. It's a huge park with duck ponds and playgrounds, lots to see and do and the kids had a great time. We then had a drink at Leidesplein which is always good for people watching. I saw a large man wearing a short sleeved black mesh t-shirt underneath very dark denim overalls. Oh, and he was riding a bike with orange flip flops. Weird, but interesting!

Then, off to the family party - and what a great time! There were about 40 people there and it was held at community centre so there was a lot of room for the kids to run around and play. The picture above is of Chloe and Julia with all of their Dutch cousins who were at the party, and the girls fit right in and had a blast. We then went over to Greta and Marty's house (Jeff's aunt and uncle) where we stayed until quite late - we just arrived home at midnight with two very, very tired children... but it was so fantastic to see everyone and catch up. The kids had 'Canada loot bags' to give out to all of their cousins and that was a nice ice breaker for them - it really gave them something to look forward to when all the different kids arrived.

So now off to bed - oh, and I've been asked about the time on these postings... it's Calgary time so you can add 8 hours to know what time I'm posting them at. I guess when I set it up it keeps it on the same time zone... I've never thought to change it. Mental arithmetic for anyone who cares! Tootaloo...!

  1. 6 to 2 what a lot of girls we have in the family. Not much different from the previous generation. Lovely to see. This must be the fence against the church I grew up with. I assume the community centre was Don Bosco which the whole family pretty much supports one way or the other. A wonderful youth club with lots of exciting programs. I assume the beer was flowing freely this day. Just getting the Scholten's together will get you a party. Glad to hear there was such a great turn out.
