Okay, 4 weeks until we leave (yes, I'm counting). I've been working very hard at not thinking about this trip every moment of the day and actively ignored it for quite awhile... but now I'm back into full obsession. I'm currently reading a book on Spanish history (I'm up to the early 1700's and actual find it fascinating) and we went to the library for some children's books on Spain so the kids could learn a little about where we're going and what we'll be doing. This has worked well in the past and has made them much more educated travelers - and sometimes even as an adult you learn the most useful stuff from a children's book!
We have been watching the euro fall which is of course fabulous for us and not so fabulous for them. So, we will do our part to help boost their economy by eating and drinking a lot while we are there. Maybe have a couple of extra tapas to help out? Remember, change starts with just one person so we will make it our mission to revive their economy! (Or at least tickle it...)
Just like our trip last summer I have been working on narrowing down what we will be packing, this time with the benefit of knowing what worked well last summer and what didn't. We will still be taking only carry-on bags but I think we will slightly vary which actual suitcases we will take and the kids will have smaller 'personal' bags for the plane. They are amazing at what they will jam into their backpacks if you give them free reign! No impulse packing allowed - and I feel qualified to say that as I was the only one last time who threw something into the suitcase at the last minute and never wore it once.
Today the girls and I are on the hunt for the perfect Spain adventure shoes. (Calling them that makes it sound more exciting, much better than 'comfortable yet nice looking walking shoe'.) The shoes that I thought Julia would take gave her foot cramps after walking in them for a few hours at the Stampede last week - and she had sort of complained before so I'm glad we figured this out now. Chloƫ loves her Converse high tops but admittedly they don't look that great with a sundress... we'll see what we can accomplish in that regard this afternoon! And me, well, that is a constant struggle. I have been 'blessed' with narrow feet which makes finding a comfortable shoe difficult. The shoes I had last summer were perfect but I have worn them out and just don't feel like I can buy the exact same shoe again. I will hunt for perfection today - may the shoe gods unite and we come home with 3 pairs of perfect shoes!
