The most beautiful beach!

Okay, still no photos as I´m sitting in an internet cafe using their computer. It´s very fast (which is a pleasant change!) so I´ll try my best to describe this awesome city. We are loving, loving, loving San Sebastian. It´s funny, we were walking today and I mentioned how I wished we had booked more time here, but that would´ve meant taking some away from the other cities which have been amazing as well. So, we´ll take what we can get!

Today was sunny and gorgeous and we hit the beach. But, there was a small snafu at first... last night we realized that we left the bottoms of both girls´swimsuits on the back of their bedroom door in Begur. Oops. So, if they had the bottoms and not the tops that would´ve been okay here in Spain, but they weren´t so keen on the other way around. This morning we went on a hunt for new bathing suits... which is easier said than done! I know from experience that this time of year (although the weather says otherwise) is not the easiest time to find a large selection of suits. We wandered for awhile and ended up finding some in the grocery store! Thankfully they had 3 suits in their size so they ´sort of´had a choice and it all worked out great. They actually fit surprisingly well and both girls really like them. Phew! Oh, and they were 3 euros each!

The beach here is so beautiful and the water is amazing. I assumed that the water (being the Atlantic) would be colder than the Mediterranean but I was completely wrong. It´s warm (and that´s saying a lot coming from me) and amazing. The beach is huge and shallow with lots of people watching availability. A few interesting things I saw today were.... (in no particular order) a woman with the most unnatural colour of brown skin - she must live at the beach!, very very bad breast implant scars (no one will be asking for the name of her plastic surgeon), and two very happy men holding hands and skipping towards the water! How fun!

I felt a little invincible today and neglected to put sunscreen on my back. After 3.5 decades you´d think I´d learn, but sadly I haven´t. I´m a bit red tonight. Sigh. The kids are great though so at least it shows some proper parenting. (Whether it was Jeff or I can´t be said for sure at this point so I´ll take the credit just in case.) ;)

We finally had some pinxos which was fun - we sat at an outdoor table and ordered drinks. We had to pay for the drinks separately and then go inside and choose a bunch of ´snacks on a stick´. You pay based on how many sticks you have. I chose a bunch of different things - some familiar and some not and they were all delicious. It could get addictive....

We´ve trolled the street looking for tonight´s dinner option and there are a few good ones. Last night Julia ate ´the best meatballs of her life´so we have big shoes to fill. I´m hoping for something with vegetables because I´m feeling a little vitamin deprived. Unless wine counts?

Goodbye for now, and if anyone is looking for a great destination I can highly recommend San Sebastian. Beautiful...!

  1. Those Pinxos (or is it Pinchos or even Pintxos) sound delicious. I hope you took some notes so you can treat us to some on your return.
